Hear Us... a Digital Zine... Time to Listen

2020. The year London stopped.

The year that the Black Lives Matter movement in Britain became a mass movement.

The year we mourned Belly Mujinga; remembered Christopher Alder; grieved Abdulfatah Hamdallah.

The year we learned to love and respect each other by standing two metres apart.

The year the statue of a man who traded in enslaved humans was thrown into the harbour.

The year racism kept moving despite that triumph...and anti-racists kept moving too.

HEAR US...a Digital Zine... Time to Listen is Taking Part’s response to the themes of The Unforgotten and the starting point for a piece of digital theatre conceived with the company of young people, directed by Jo Tyabji, with animation by Edalia Day and sound design by Helena Almeida, coming later this year.

This digital zine, created by nine young Londoners and three artists, is a call to arms. It’s full of passion, power and hope. It asks that we sit back, listen and hear what young people have to say about the events that have rocked 2020 so far, how we got here and where we need to go next. Weaving together conversations and ideas generated during creative workshops, this zine is an exploration into a new way of presenting digital theatre.
