Our Learning strand programmes a wide range of activities for young people studying in Lambeth and Southwark to experience all aspects of theatre-making and theatre going. We aim to open up the theatre to ensure the next generation is welcomed as both audience members and theatre-makers.

A Theatre visit whilst on a school trip is often a young person's first encounter with a professional theatre. We collaborate with our local schools, colleges, and universities in Lambeth and Southwark to enhance the students’ experience of theatre, providing them with direct access to the artists who work with us. We also partner with schools, colleges, and universities to provide meaningful work experiences and placements for students at every stage of education.

During the pandemic, we moved our work online to engage young people remotely. We wanted to continue offering a real insight into the creative processes that happen at a producing theatre. We provide experiences that nurture the aspirations of local young people. Many of our school students continue to take part in our programme outside of school and grow to become our most promising emerging theatre-makers.

Lambeth and Southwark Schools

The Young Vic has deep roots in our local community and our work focuses on our neighbouring boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark. Because the work the Young Vic produces is so varied students have access to a wide spectrum of theatre from new plays to classics, produced by some of the world’s most exciting theatre directors and creative teams.

As a school or college in Lambeth or Southwark you have free access to the following:

Free ticket scheme

We encourage you to apply for funded tickets for our productions, enabling your students to have access to the theatre regardless of their financial circumstances.

In-school workshops

Offered after most theatre visits, your students can work with the assistant director exploring a particular aspect of the creative process.

Events for teachers

Throughout the year we have opportunities for teachers, including CPD with professional artists and funded tickets to performances without your students.

Ultimately the offer we make to schools is in our capacity as theatre makers, inspiring creative confidence and passing on skills, knowledge, and motivation that can be taken back to the classroom.

If you are based in Lambeth or Southwark and would like to find out more about our projects please contact Melanie Anouf, Learning Producer on or 020 7922 2858.

Non Lambeth and Southwark Schools

The Young Vic is invested in our local community, and our work focuses on our local boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark.

Schools outside these boroughs are entitled to discounted tickets to Young Vic productions and our series of comprehensive resource packs. Contact our Welcome Team on 020 7922 2922 for more information.

Very occasionally we are able to extend our funded offers to other London schools. If you would like to hear from us when these opportunities are available please send your details to

The Young Vic’s Funded Ticket Scheme is supported by The Golsoncott Foundation.
